Individualized Orton-Gillingham tutoring for $20 / hour

The Hasbro Center for Teaching Excellence trains approximately 20 educators in the Associate Level of Orton-Gillingham each year. After participants successfully complete their 60 hours of coursework, they move on to the 100 hour practicum to provide individual tutoring to a student 2 - 3 times a week for 45 - 60 minutes per session.

The Practicum Tutoring Program was initiated to offer families access to Orton-Gillingham tutoring at a third of the cost. The program pairs an Orton-Gillingham "trainee" with an interested student from the same community. The practicum is supervised by the Orton-Gillingham instructor, which includes 10 observations and continued support through the 100 hours of tutoring.

To be considered for participation in the Practicum Tutoring Program, a student should be in grades 1 - 5, have documentation of a language-based learning disability, be available either during or after school 2 - 3 times a week for up to an hour each session, and be committed to continuing tutorials throughout the school year.

Parents must be willing to pay $20 an hour for the Orton-Gillingham tutoring (billed on a monthly basis), notify their tutor at least 48 hours in advance to cancel a scheduled tutoring session (to avoid being billed), submit a check for $100 up front to cover the first five tutorials, and understand that the Hasbro Center at Dunn reserves the right to terminate tutorials if the program is not successfully meeting the needs of all parties involved.
